One of the million reasons I love yoga

5/27/2019

This week I have been overcoming an injury.  In the old days, that would have prevented me from doing, well , anything. I would have run to the ER , gotten pain medication and been an over emotional mess for everyone to take care of.

Not since yoga.

Now I have learned how to work with my body, to challenge all the parts of my body that are working right now.  Moving staves off depression and anxiety for me.  The more I believe that my body works, the less I am overwhelmed with depression.

I am grateful that I know that yoga is more than perfect poses. It is about becoming.  I am becoming an athlete, strong and assured.  Learning to be more grateful of this body that is aging. Growing into an elder with grace.

Reason one million and again, thank you yoga!

Nana's Love

This  brilliant soap was inspired by my Nana, Farmer's Market and being Sicilian.  The colors are gentle and gently fold into each other, the scents are beautiful , the French Green Clay and Lemon powder add depth .

This time of year, I begin thinking of the miracle that yoga has given in my life.  The beautiful people that I have gotten to share the mat with, the transitions in my life.

This year I was thinking of the over 500 men I have introduced yoga, meditation and singing bowls  to in the past 5 years.  Only a handful of those men knew anything about yoga, the rest had lives that wouldn't normally lead them into a yoga studio.

The beauty on their faces when they get a pose down, the anger that begins to move out of the soul, the minute of peace that they experience is magical to witness.

This is who I have always wanted to be as a yoga teacher.  My hope is to take yoga to those who would not normally walk into a yoga studio.

,I think of all of the souls who have come into the studio.  Students from every walk of life, every time of life, come into the studio and share the mat in community with people who are also living life.  We find our similarity.

I am always amazed that when people come to my class, many times they are in the same challenge in life.  In breath and movement, we come to a solution together.  Together for years, we have laughed and cried together. Different people at different times, yet all powerful experiences.

Thank you and I am humbled that you have given me 16 years of teaching. Thank you for being patient as I also have worked through grief and loss, changing body, injuries and celebrations.  You are the reason I teach and I love you dearly!

Namaste!

I haven't forgotten my promise to post the week's classes!  Things have just been readjusting in my world.

As a part ( more will be revealed) of Building Blocks of Recovery and in order to buy a house, I have started making soap to sell. ( you can find it at www.thehousethatsoapbuilt.com or on Etsy)  I have been building webpages , social media , creating the soap and connecting with retail stores in hopes of securing a few wholesale accounts.

The other biggest change is that I disconnected the television. ( oh we still have streaming, it just makes it more of a challenge to "zone out", I have to be intentional about what I watch or if I do!)  I had no idea how much time I was spending at the television.

I have to tell you that I feel like I have been on an emotional detox .  Maybe I am now coming up for air!

The Ted Talk that I posted came up on my youtube " by accident".  My soul sang when I listened. For so many years, people have told me to toughen up, that people have to "walk on egg shells" around me and that I am "oversensitive".   After hearing my daily experiences in this talk, I finally feel like I can accept this part of me.  One more time, I am learning I am not broken, that my pieces fit together the way they do for a purpose.  ( and that my trying to "fit into" others definitions of how I should feel has been doing myself and the world a disservice!)

You know what I love about yoga?  This is one of the lessons that yoga has been trying to teach me all along....I am not broken.  I am perfect as I am to do that things that I was sent here to do.

If you are 'sensitive' as I am, please join me on the yoga mat.   I love spending time with "my people" and the community that has been built is lovely and strong.

And please, please, learn to love you just as you are!

And I will always see you as perfect , just as you are!

That iThis week, I have been so swept away with possibilities that I have not posted the poses.   Just come to class on Saturday, we are doing the Goddess series and wait until you see what has been added!  ( fun, fun, fun)

So the possibilities, let me explain.  It is all the same stuff for me, the Building Blocks of Recovery theme, using all of life to create a safe and healing environment for you.  I am tackling each piece , one at a time and expanding it to a new level. Developing all of the pieces to a finer degree to support continuing health and balance for you.

This has been slow in coming becuase, I have been afraid, embarrassed for who I am. ( Oh my gosh , have you watched Brene Brown talking about courage on Netflix?  Stop reading, go watch it, and come back.  This post will make more sense lol)  Always chronically under funded, much of my work coming out of my family budget, interested ( and good at) so many things.  Business people have often told me to settle on one message and stick to one thing.

It will just never happen.  Well, except I am passionate about creating a way of living that helps me to weather life's storms, continues to challenge and grow me spiritually and allows me to be grateful for all I have been given.  That is my one message, that I believe in people and in their knowledge  of how to heal their own lives.

Two weekends ago, I talked with another entrepreneur friend whose resume looks so much like mine, she does everything so well.  When I was asking her about her life, she said," I have a mosaic life."

Wait, a mosaic life?  PERFECT.. ( I just happen to LOVE mosaics).   A mosaic , different pieces of something else that when put together, form a beautiful picture that tells the story and the story within the story.

THAT'S IT!  ( PS I will know you read my blog if you ask me about my mosaic life...lol!)

So here is what is happening....catch your breath.....( I had to just to write it down!):

*Going back to the recording studio, time for a new singing bowl CD.  My music has changed and it's time to share that change with my listeners.   I am more sure of my own gift, less patterned with my unique sound.

*Writing a new book. Super Excited to take these pieces of the Building Blocks of Recovery  lifestyle and break them down more, to make this accessible for every day living.

* Developing events and seminars collaboratively.  I am focusing on life changes and helping others to become as excited about their life as I am!  ( and if you are over 50, you know what I am talking about, time to find new excitement.  We need you, don't get lost!)

* Creating body and home care products that support the Building Blocks of Recovery lifestyle.  Those products are available through my website: https//: www.thehousethatsoapbuilt.com.

* Trying to buy a house so that I can focus on creating the life, the garden and the practice that I would like to develop.

* continuing to teach yoga, which is one of my first loves. Yoga is the way to healing my emotions, my soul with meditation and my body with breath and intention. I share truly body positive and community building with my students and when I find my house, my studio will always reflect that same.

Other than that, lol, I am tanning.  ( kidding, I work a full time job also!!)

So please , your understanding that I am a mosaic in process would be amazing.  And allow yourself to be one to.  Don't let others who are not supportive, impact your goals and dreams.

GO For IT!  ( I am always on your side! :)

Namaste,
Sandy
