    Yoga Questions?

Ask Sandy
I have been a very , very blessed teacher for a long time now, 16 years!  Or as I estimate teaching over 2000 hours!    ( They say that you aren't proficient until you have done something over 10,000 times, I guess I am a fifth of the way there !)

I have taught in many different locations over the years, each one having it's bright spots and challenges.

This is a video I shot many years ago in the studio that began my yoga career, Wild Grace Arts. I will always have nostalgia for that space, it was where my heart came alive.

When I began yoga, I quickly fell into the societal pressures of buying the yoga " junk" , the right pants, the right shirt, the perfect mat, the OM symbol.  I remember that as I was learning this special way of life, consumerism snuck in there too.

I love the learning that yoga offers.  More than just the poses. It grew me.  As I learned, grew, I was taught to challenge my own beliefs and thoughts.  I identified that my consumerism was a mask for the deeper challenges I wasn't ready to face within myself.

Today, I am letting go of more and more of the need to gain " the perfect yoga".  That is part of why I will sometimes teach in a Seahawks jersey, or some other funny tee shirt that says " Glitter is my signature color", that is why I sometimes teach in socks.

You see, yoga is.   That is a full statement.  Yoga is.   Yoga isn't what I wear, who I learn from. how my body does or doesn't move.  Yoga is.  Yoga is more than what I understand it to be today because it is 5000 years old!  There are poses and techniques that have been lost to time, yet some of how we teach now is linked to those lost gifts.

Allow yourself to appreciate your journey and be flexible within yourself.  Be grateful for what you have been gifted so far, knowing that every day will bring new meaning and gifting as you gain flexibility.

Yes, you can find your perfect space for your yoga because it began in your heart. Yoga is.

Namaste.
